Our Story

Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Putin was accompanied by Russian nuclear threats and a rising concern about a nuclear war. But it is not just words but actions, like suspending participation in nuclear arms control agreements. Many experts fear we are at the beginning of a nuclear arms race and a collapse of the rules that have reduced and restrained the spread of nuclear weapons for six decades.

In the face of these and other emerging nuclear threats, our project at the MIT Security Studies Program interviewed the world’s leading nuclear and country experts and assembled a “superhero” team of young researchers and creatives. The team has curated and produced content on the nuclear dangers posed by Russia, North Korea, and all the countries that possess nuclear weapons.
